Pablo Picasso : The Vollard Suite In the years between 1930 and 1937, Picasso made a series of engravings on copper using various techniques and inspired by themes which reoccurred as leitmotivs throughout his work. After the 97 plates were finished, grouped in general under the following 5 themes: “Rembrandt”, “The Sculptor’s Studio”, “Rape”, “The Blind Minotaur”, in 1937, Picasso added 3 portraits of Ambroise Vollard, his publisher and one of his principal pre-war dealers. Thus would Vollard give his name to the series, composed from that point on of 100 plates and presented here in its entirety. Pablo Picasso |
